Emergency Renewal of Passport in Canada

In some cases, people might need to get their passports renewed as a matter of urgency. In such cases, applying for a passport under the TATKAL scheme is the best bet. This is only possible if the urgent passport application results from a critically ill immediate family member or the death of a person. Such immediate families include the applicant’s spouse, siblings, children, or parents and the acceptable applications will only be submitted through the SAMPARK portal to quicken up the appointment.

TATKAL passports would not be issued for:

  • Adjusting personal information like name, address, marital status, etc.
  • Lost or damaged passports
  • Renewing passport with a tight expiration date.
  • Passports would not be issued for minors whose parents have recently divorced.
  • For cases of expired study permit, PR, work permit, or visitor permit cases.

TATKAL passports are more expensive and should be used only when an urgent passport is required.
