For immigration basis, a document is required that helps to attest that an individual has not been involved in any criminal activities. The document is known as a Police clearance certificate (PCC), it drafts out an individual’s illegal activities. In the absence of criminal activities, the CIC will evaluate the individual based on this certificate. Canadian immigration officials pay attention to police certification to be sure the person isn’t a security threat. If, for any reason, it is suggested from the certificate that an individual’s criminal activity poses a danger to Canadian society, such an application may be rejected.
The police clearance certificate must be in English or French. The candidate must present an official/certified translation and an affidavit alongside the application if the certificate is provided in other languages.
A police certificate is a required document when applying for permanent residency in Canada. It may also be required for temporary residents of Canada, such as Tourists, students, caregivers, etc.
The term for a police clearance certificate may differ in different other countries. It may be known as a conduct certificate, judicial court extracts, police checks, etc. Applicants must understand that if their police clearance certificate is not in English or French, they must submit it alongside an English or French translation from an approved translator.
Generally, everyone 18 years and above requires a police clearance certificate. However, this may not apply to some people. The requirement for a PCC depends on the program the applicant is applying to. A police certificate is needed for countries and locations where an individual has spent six or more months continually since their 18th birthday.
The following are the processes for submitting a PCC application;
We urge you first to register and submit the PCC application online according to the rules presented in the link below. Applicants should read and follow the instructions while applying as provided in our website.
The second step requires that applicants submit the printout of the PCC application, together with other supporting documents and fees, at the BLS center. Applicants can check the BLS website for more information on the application form, documents, etc.
Permanent residency applicants in Canada need the PCC because of the strict guidelines on who can or cannot enter the country. Although the presence of a police record is not a reason to deny a visa, the Canadian authorities take some criminal activities seriously. These activities include;
An individual convicted or with criminal records may find it challenging to obtain a visa. Police records that include traffic tickets or other minor violations will not be a problem and will not affect your visa. If you are not comfortable with the information on your police report, you should consult an immigration lawyer or consultant.
